We Wish You Were Here Part Two Bali

With only a whisper of jet lag remaining, we are once again under the Californian sun. The memory full of verdant images of Bali and its bounty of color. Lush rice terraces, banana palms growing wild and pink tipped grasses nodding along the road side. The celebration and the ceremony, all attune with nature. Yes. Still reeling. I’ve compiled a short list of places most to dine, some to shop and where to relax after a hard day on the beach, within Canggu or "Goo" as it is lovingly called.  So, first up, “Food”, the very force of life.

Betelnut cafe, Jalan Batu Bulong
The menu boasts a fantastic array of healthy food, from breakfast thru till dinner, that both herbivores and carnivores will enjoy. (My boys love the “Sapi Burger”!)  The menu spans the globe from Mexico to Indonesia and everything in between.

Old Mans, Beach Side, Batu Bulong
Situated above Batu Bulong beach.  Old Mans is a party atmosphere, where you'll find expats and holiday makers rubbing shoulders.  The menu offers a wide range of food including basic western fare for those missing their pasta or fish and chips. Children are very welcome.

Warung Bu Mi, Batu Bulong
For those who enjoy eating “Local food” or live by "When in Rome do as the Romans do"  you will find Javanese restaurants, or Warung’s everywhere. In this case “Warung Bu Mi” (Bu Mi meaning “Of the earth”) was our favorite. Javanese cuisine, is sweeter than spicy balinese fare. At Bu Mi, dishes are freshly cooked, twice daily. With three different types of rice on offer, red, yellow or white, plus noodle dishes or “Mie” (pronounced “Me”) as the base.  Here you point to choose from a selection of foods behind the glass counter.

This is my most favorite selection.

Quince Eatery, Jalan Pantai Berawa 49A
Owned and operated by Armen and his wife,  textile designer Michelle.  Quince is offering a selection of simple food with a Thai and Vietnamese over tone.  We can totally vouch for their pulled pork baguette and the Thai Laab salad. The later was filled with herbs and so aromatic it not only tasted delicious, but the aroma was out of this world.

Quince offers a great selection of homewares too. The natural color palette beckoning the eye with slivers of color.

Dandelion Cafe, Batu Bulong
Dandelion is delightful. Positioned under a Joglo, situated within a quiet garden. The interior is filled with Javanese memorabilia and carries an antiquated charm. Here you can dine with the bunnies. Yes, you read it right Bunnies!

The food is a selection of Javanese and Balinese! We are particularly fond of their Urab, a Balinese green bean and coconut salad, as seen below. If you like wine with your meal just ask, you will be pleasantly surprised with the selection.

Sagalaya, Batu Bulong ( opposite Dandelion)
This petit shop opened during our stay. We love their wood products by Lemons and Limes and the sweet ceramics. All small enough to squirrel away into the suitcase for gifts. Highly recommend!

Gold Dust Spa, Jalan Batu Bulong
Goldust Spa is the place to go.  With an extensive menu that covers both Ladies and Gents.  Our last afternoon, we fell into the all encompassing arm chairs and relaxed.
Goldust has recently built into their menu  “Golden”  a mini mani pedi with head and shoulder massage for children age 5-12.
